Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or at the time of vehicle collection. This document outlines specific terms, conditions, insurance coverage, applicable charges, and your obligations during the rental period. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Renting a vehicle requires:
- To hire a vehicle from Swinton, you must be at least 21 years old, though age restrictions may vary depending on the vehicle type, with potential extra charges for drivers under 25. A valid driving licence appropriate for the vehicle category is required, along with identification and proof of your current address. Valid payment details and a security deposit must also be provided. Additional requirements may be outlined in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations can be completed via our website, over the phone, or directly at our Dartford office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. The remaining balance and security deposit are generally payable upon collecting your vehicle. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where applicable. We accept all major credit and debit cards, ensuring secure transactions through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection, it is essential to conduct a thorough inspection and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be completed and signed to document the state of the vehicle. Upon return, the vehicle should be in the same condition as when it was collected, taking into account normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charged as necessary. Ensure the fuel level matches what was provided at the start of the rental; refueling charges will apply if the vehicle is returned with less fuel. Late returns may result in extra fees, so please notify us promptly if you anticipate any delays. You will be responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or related charges incurred during the rental period, along with an administration fee.
Insurance and Liability Terms
- All rentals include basic third-party insurance. You can find comprehensive coverage information and excess amounts in your Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be offered to limit your financial exposure. It is advisable to review these options thoroughly. You will be liable for damage or loss up to the insurance excess amount, unless you have opted for extra coverage. Responsibility for damage resulting from negligence or misuse remains with you, regardless of any insurance policy.
6. Modifications and Cancellations
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice period provided. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or failure to show up may incur additional charges.
Prohibited Activities
Prohibited uses of rental vehicles
- Using the vehicle for any unlawful activities is prohibited. This includes racing, rallying, off-roading, or engaging in other risky behaviors. Transporting dangerous materials is not allowed. Sub-letting the vehicle or permitting unauthorized drivers is forbidden. Driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs is unacceptable. The vehicle must not be used for purposes it was not intended for. Passenger and weight limits must be adhered to. Driving beyond the specified geographical limits requires prior approval.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental termination and extra fees.
Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Swinton Car Hire will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims will not exceed the total amount you paid for your rental in the past 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury resulting from negligence or fraud.

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in these regions.
